What is CEQAmap?
CEQAmap is a FREE digital library of environmental documents, such as EIRs and MNDs- that simple. Sign up at no charge and use the database at will. You may download any document for future reference and now you may upload documents as well. This new feature will create expansive, unprecedented possibilities for sharing information through-out California, the Nation, and the World and that is what CEQA is all about!
Why create CEQAmap?
Until now there has been no central, searchable repository of "CEQA Project" related documents in California. Although attempts using hardcopy were made in the past, these proved impractical. Current Web-based technology and Internet accessibility have eliminated the constraints imposed by using paper storage and access. The time for searchable, accessible digital document publishing has arrived - and so has CEQAmap!
Why Become a Sponsor (and how)?
CEQAmap is free for all users, however, the development of the code and the costs for maintaining the server are not. Sponsor contributions go towards these operating expenses and is greatly appreciated. Additionally, we are visited 24/7 by a wide range of users. Can I upload my EIRs or MNDs into the database?
Yes, that would be great! CEQAmap users can now UPLOAD DOCUMENTS directly from their work station. This makes CEQAmap a kind of "Wiki" database that we all benefit from building. Email us at support@ceqadocs.com if you have questions relating to this new capability.
Why would I want to upload my EIRs or MNDs into the database?
We believe in the idea that sharing public information is good for everyone and the more information the better. Your contribution may be of value to someone else and their contribution may be of value to you.
How does CEQAmap's search engine work?
We designed the CEQAmap search engine to read and rank keywords and phrases similarly to most current search engines. We "rip" project descriptions, lead agency onfo and create file names that offer the best opportunity for returning the data you seek.
CEQAmap's search engine is smart, but you are smarter! Our users come up with pretty specific search criteria. Since we can't read minds, it is difficult to design a search engine that returns every query. Read our advanced search tips then see how you do. Our staff is available to assist you. Since we input this data, we can lend a hand.
What can I expect if I download a document?
Files are either .ZIP or .PDF type. Often, the downloads are large. They are generally under 100MB but we do have a couple records in the database over 400MB. Super large documents have to be loaded into sets, each zip then being less than 97MB. So some documents are going to be 1 of 3, 2 of 3, and so on. If you have trouble with these downloads we will send a CD for a nominal fee to cover copying and shipping.
How fast can I get documents?
As fast as your system will download. Once downloaded you can save and store the data any way or anywhere you choose. The data also remains in your Account Options section, under the sub-heading "Your Library of Downloaded Documents", as long as we are able to pay the server fees - see: why become a sponsor.
What is the easiest way to utilize the document(s) once it arrives?
If the files are.ZIPped, we recommend you unzip and save them on your hard drive. From there you can view, print or transfer your document with greater ease. Downloaded .PDF files can be opened with Adobe Reader.
